AI for tax teams: use cases and limits, with e-invoicing in view
2 Oct 2026
Tax work mixes rules, facts and judgement. AI helps most with the facts and the first draft, and least with the judgement.
Good uses
- Document reading. Extract key terms from contracts to support VAT treatment or transfer pricing analysis.
- Reconciliation support. Compare VAT return turnover to Corporate Tax revenue and list differences to explain.
- Research assistance. Summarise a new FTA Decision and list the questions it raises for your business, then read the Decision yourself.
- Draft notes. Prepare position papers and board summaries for review.
Limits
- Laws change often. UAE rules shifted several times in 2026, so a model’s recollection may be out of date.
- A model cannot take responsibility for a filing position.
- Confidential taxpayer data needs an approved, protected environment.
E-invoicing changes the data
When e-invoicing begins, invoices will exist as structured data sent through accredited providers. Finance teams will hold cleaner, richer transaction data, which makes automated checks and analytics far easier. Teams that tidy their master data now will gain the most.
